THE "SANTA GIULIA" IS NOW OPERATING FROM OUR PORT

Porto di Livorno

February 2017 - As promised, after a few days since arrival from the DAMEN shipyard our SANTA GIULIA and its crew began its operations in the Port of Livorno. We wish her well !!!

OUR FLEET GROWS!

Triple order for Damen from Fratelli Neri. The three tugs (one of which is assigned to Labromare) will actually be delivered in November and will be stationed for work in Livorno.

A few days after the order received from Rimorchiatori Augusta, Damen secured another important order from an Italian operator in Livorno - Fratelli Neri.

The company commissioned three units from the Dutch shipyard - an ASD Tug 2913, a Stan Tug 1606 and a Stan Launch 1305, all intended to be used for operations in and around the port of Livorno. The value of the transaction was not revealed.

The three vessels (the last of which has been assigned to Labromare, under 50% shared control by the Livorno company together with Tripmare) will actually be delivered in November this year; they will join the other tugs built under the Damen brand name recently acquired by the company; namely, the Luisa Neri, a newly built vessel on the ASD 3212 model, received in February this year and already operating in Livorno, and the two second-hand Stan tugs 2608 acquired through Damen Trading.

This is the current status of the three recently ordered vessels, all in advanced stages of construction given Damen's orientation to build 'on spec': the harbour tug ASD 2913, with fixed-point haulage capacity of 80 tons, is currently being refitted for compliance to Italian maritime standards at the Galati facilities in Romania. This vessel, which will be equipped with FiFi1 Oil recovery systems; according to the shipyard, it was chosen because it can ensure both power and compactness as well as manoeuvrability. The Stan Tug 1606, even more suited to operation in restricted navigation waterways, will be used for operations along the coast and in the vicinity of the port of Livorno. It too will be subject to the upgrades required for compliance with the Italian flag regulations, in his case at the Gorinchem yard in the Netherlands. Finally, our third vessel, the Stan Launch 1305, also under construction in the Gorinchem shipyard, will be delivered to Labromare and used for environmental protection services in Italy.(CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS http://products.damen.com/en/ranges/stan-launch/stan-launch-1305 )

Piero Neri declared that he was quite satisfied and expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation established with the Fratelli Neri staff "who worked together as one team".Andrea Trevisan, Sales Manager of the shipbuilding group for north, west and south Europe, instead emphasised Damen's capabilities in building for stock and therefore assuring "customised ships of high quality with shorter lead times compared to typical delivery schedules when signing orders for new construction".

Today is the third day of hard work for our teams of engineers. They have been busy since Saturday morning safeguarding the environment around the waters of the Spillway between Pontedera and Stagno, after the spillage of a substantial amount of diesel oil from the Livorno-Calenzano pipeline in the Gello area. Here are the insights that you will find in the newspaper IL TIRRENO, which can also be found at this link http://iltirreno.gelocal.it/livorno/cronaca/2014/12/07/news/fiume-di-gasolio-nello-scolmatore-oleodotto-bucato-dai-ladri-1.10453553

"River" of diesel in the Spillway: oil pipeline punctured by thieves

They punctured the pipeline for an attempted theft: maxi-diesel spill that ends in the Spillway and reaches the sea, 35 km further west. Labromare in action with Castalia and the Neri group with a series of barriers of oil absorbent booms to stop the pollution shock by Mauro Zucchelli

STAGNO. The hole in the Eni oil pipeline between the Stagno refinery (Livorno) and the Calenzano deposits (Florence) was made to steal fuel. We do not know if they had already succeeded or if that was the first attempt, the fact is that in the last few days, something went wrong and an oil spill began to squirt out from the underground pressurised pipeline at a depth of more than two meters, becoming increasingly bigger. So big that, due to a chain of unfortunate events, ended up in the Spillway and even reached the sea – 35 kilometres away – between the port of Livorno and the sand of Calambrone.

The fact is that, due to the slope of the terrain, the diesel in the leakage first ended up under the flyover of the motorway and then into the waters of the Spillway: the flow towards the sea led it to Stagno and beyond. This is where Labromare – the anti-pollution company from Livorno appointed by Eni to block the spillage, in tandem with Castalia and the Neri group – has certified one of the main "entrenchments" to stop the effects of a spill, still of an unspecified dimension but surely exceptional.

«We were alerted on Friday 5th in the evening – says Eugenio Fiore, director of Labromare – and we immediately intervened where the hole in the pipeline had been discovered. However, the spill was so great that within a few hours the diesel that ended up in the Spillway, floating on water, had already arrived at the height of the bridge of the Aurelia Way at Stagno. We tried to block it by putting a barrier of oil absorbent booms but soon found that wasn't enough: we replaced them with stationary booms of a greater consistency. Then we intervened with a dinghy, gully suckers and "disc-oil" mobile equipment which is used to retrieve spilled substances floating on water that are sucked into the cistern».

But this was just one of the barriers: an anti-pollution boat – confirmed by the headquarters of Labromare – was positioned at the height of the movable bridge in the dockyard area in Tuscany and, «at the request of the Harbour Master’s Office», another was placed in the sea at the mouth of the Spillway to prevent impact on the marine environments. Another barrier of floats was placed at the bridge of Lavoria while the perforated pipeline was "sheathed" to stop the oil spill. A tour de force of 18 workers, which will increase even more - says Fiore the director - seeing that it is necessary to clean up the drains that run along the dirt road under which the pipeline is buried. The polluted soil will be taken away by truck, now other means will be employed in Stagno to accelerate the clean-up, in addition to the three gully suckers, the two emergency vehicles and the special vehicle already working to deal effectively with this emergency.

«On Friday 5th I was fishing in the area of the rotating bridge in the dockyard area of Tuscany, – says Antoine Milos, of Prato – and I was struck by terrible fumes: stuff that made a brown foam. I'm a chemist, I tell you that it wasn't just diesel, there was something else: it stung your eyes and made breathing difficult, just like the sting of many needles. Terrible, really. It wasn't just diesel because it didn't look like an oily slick but like the sparkle of a shattered mirror. I made a lot of phone calls to warn about the emergency, but nobody listened to me».

The alarm was given on Friday afternoon between the industrial area of Gello (Pontedera) and Latignano (Cascina): it was the smell of diesel that drew the attention of the firefighters of Cascina, the traffic wardens of Pontedera and the State Forestry Department. . It should be said that, commenting on the first news published by Tirreno.it on Friday 5th, the reader Luciano Panicucci had reported that the night before, exactly on Thursday 4th, the smell of diesel fuel «could already be smelt at Lavoria, near the entrance of the Fi-Pi-Li motorway». Moreover, he adds that he began to smell it as "I was going to Cascina» to the point where he stopped «thinking that I had a leak in my car». Even the Carabinieri of Pontedera are at work on the investigations on this matter.

At the moment our anti-pollution emergency teams are committed to protecting the waters of the Port of Livorno against an accidental oil spill.

The operation, which took place in the internal branches of the industrial port with a significant deployment of forces: boats via sea equipped with Disc-Oil oil-recovery vessels, Dock Gully Suckers with Skimmers, all coordinated by our technicians.

Important updates coming soon.

The Neri group broadens its scope, entering in Labromare and in certain respects it buys another port segment. The acquisition was completed in the summer, but the protagonists, with the discretion that has always characterized the Neri family, preferred not to highlight the operation too much.

However the entrance into the company which was founded 45 years ago by Amerigo Cafferata and which has become an international leader in the field of marine environmental remediation, and those relevant. It brings the company's governance back to Livorno, whose operational and legal branches have always remained in the city, but whose headquarters had been transferred to Trieste since 2002, based in Tripnavi Spa, a group specializing in the investment and construction of port facilities for treatment, recovery and disposal of solid and liquid waste. Moreover, the revolution of the top management led to the appointment of Corrado Neri as new Chief Executive Office, next to Alberto Cattaruzza of Trieste, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

But the news is also relevant in the risk of the docks and more generally the local port industry of Livorno: because this is a further range of expansion for the Neri group, which took place in the same summer - exactly 20 days after - where there was a rise to 50% in Sintermar, the terminal which had been the parlour of the Harbour for a long time and in which up to 14 June, D'Alesio, Fremura and Neri were democratically placed with 33% each.

The new corporate structure of Labromare now sees Tripnavi with 50% and the Neri Brothers who own the other half of a pie that is worth 7.5 million Euros.

Among other things, just inside the group of Trieste there have recently been big maneuvers that have led the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Tugboats company of Genova to acquire 50% of the share capital of Gesmar of Ravenna, which in turn is owner of 50% of Tripnavi (the other 50% is owned by Ocean Srl of the Cattaruzza family).

The presence of tugboats of Genova, highlights Corrado Neri ensures «a perfect integration also from a human point of view» in the management of the company.

«We know the previous owners well, and we are sure that we will create a synergy and a communion of very positive intent with them», adds the new CEO of the company.

For years Neri and Labromare have worked side by side in major environmental emergencies in the Mediterranean, the last in order of time - remaining in Tuscan waters - those linked to 198 toxic barrels which fell off the Eurocargo Venezia off the coast of Gorgona and the Concordia tragedy.

And both Neri and Labromare, among other things, are members of the Castalia Consortium, which includes the main Italian shipowners and monitors the coasts of the peninsula with over 40 ships on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment.

For Neri the acquisition was a natural progression from a business point of view almost with a view to expanding the business of marine anti-pollution. That will allow the main maritime group of Livorno to extend to storage activities (owned by Labromare) and coastal remediation. However, the operation is very important also for Labromare, because the entrance of Neri is a guarantee of further development and security not just for the 134 employees.

«For us Labromare represents a complementary activity and not an alternative - confirms Corrado Neri -. We believe that strong potential of development can be created from this synergy and that the company can be relocated on the market with greater interest».

22/06/2014 ARBATAX. A fishing boat of about 25 metres, long since disarmed, sank, yesterday morning, at around 11.30 in the western dock (the industrial dock) of the port, where it was moored. The fire brigade of the local fire station and the men of the Maritime District Office-Arbatax Coast Guard, under the command of Lieutenant Rocco Landi. The fishing boat that sank - an investigation by the Coast Guard is underway to ascertain the causes and responsibilities, but it could be one or more of the issues rendered by the sea – is the "Orsera", which belongs to a company from Arbatax. The alarm was given to the Provincial Fire Service Command by a citizen who was passing on the industrial dock, who passed it on to the control room of the Maritime District Office. Lieutenant Landi immediately sent the Noip team (Port emergency services unit) to the scene. The fire brigade used their pumps, but the fishing boat had embarked too much water and sank. Circomare took the necessary measures to contain the slight oil spill, prompting the intervention of the depolluting boat Eco Elba of Castalia Ecolmar, which has positioned floating booms to contain the fuel spill and therefore prevent it from spreading in the port. The Eco Elba also activated a "skimmer" to absorb the amount of oil leaked from the 25-metre fishing boat.

28/04/2014 - His wife Rosanna De Raffaele and children Claudia and Andrea Cafferata would like to thank all those who participated in mourning the loss of their dear Amerigo.

2504//2014 - With infinite gratitude, we join the family's grief over the loss of dear AMERIGO CAFFERATA, known to all of us as the COMMANDER.

LIVORNO 26/04/2014. Due to a sudden illness, he was admitted to intensive care shortly before Easter, and last night his heart stopped forever: this is how the entrepreneur Amerigo Cafferata left us. He lived in Nugola, he would have turned 76 in November.

His name is tied by a double thread to the history of Labromare, the company that deals with anti-pollution measures. He had founded it in '69, almost half a century ago: seven years before the first anti-pollution law, which is also linked to the intuition of Gianfranco Merli of Livorno.

Of the company that has its headquarters in via Quaglierini and a dozen years ago was taken over by the Tripnavi Group of Trieste, he was still Chairman of the Board of Directors and also technical manager: a token of esteem conquered in his daily working life.

At the beginning the activities of the company of Cafferata focused its attention on actions against the risks of pollution of the sea and the port of Livorno. However, before long the scope of its activities was extended: on the one hand, towards earth, with the acquisition of means to deal with environmental remediation in industry; on the other, multiplying the range of services in ports to include fire fighting, the cleaning of the docks but also the port waterways. The growth led by Cafferata brought Labromare to be the first company in our country at the beginning of the 80s that could count on a solid waste treatment plant in ports (followed by, in the last decade, the Bilge Water Treatment Plant and then the one to treat and dispose of solid waste).

Christmas '97 brought under the tree the appointment of the Quirinal Palace of Grand Officer of Merit of the Republic (proposed by the Presidency of the Council) and a few years later he was entrusted - from '99 to 2002 - the Presidency of the Propeller Club, the association that gathers the representatives that in businesses and in their professions deal with maritime-port activities.

The latest flagship in chronological order was the collaboration in the post-shipwreck operations to prevent the disaster of the Costa Concordia from becoming an environmental apocalypse for the island of Giglio. Labromare disposed of the more than 300 tons of fuel and diesel oil.

The family Cafferata is well known in the city: the brother Oscar has long been President and reference point of the Voluntary Emergency Assistance Society. Amerigo Cafferata leaves his wife Rosanna De Raffaele and children Andrea and Claudia. His death has shaken the port world: even the Labromare workers sent messages of condolence. The family invites those who esteemed him to donate a sum to charity initiatives in our city, starting with Palliative Care. It is still not known when the funeral will be held to give him the last embrace.

Youth Orientation Day and SMEs Day. Young people in the company to talk about the future

The Young Entrepreneurs Group and the Small Industry Committee of Confindustria Livorno promote the relationship between the business community and schools, organising a dual synergistic initiative "Youth Orientation" and "SMEs Day" 2013 on 14th and 15th November.

This initiative will involve 600 students of classes III, IV and V of high schools across the Province, confirming the guide-role of Confindustria Livorno around the territory for the orientation of future human capital to entrepreneurship and productive work culture. The Young Entrepreneurs Group project, entitled "Computer science, technology and science: possible professions in the future in Livorno", which will culminate with the Youth Orientation on 14th November, aims to implement the knowledge of technologically advanced enterprises located on the territory, as well as all businesses with innovative know-how, environmentally friendly and safe, as potential careers opportunities in technical and scientific professions for qualified young people who are aware of their choices, propensities and potential.

The first phase involved a meeting between students and employers and company visits, in which they addressed specific aspects of technology and innovation in each business process, with particular attention to the issues of safety and the environment.

"As Entrepreneurs operating in the area," said the President of the Young Entrepreneurs Group Saverio Evangelista – it is our duty to offer and inform the future generations of the opportunities and job possibilities that our area has to offer through dialogue with schools. I think it's a great opportunity for young people to convey their future choices. "

Many companies have also joined with enthusiasm to the SMEs Day, welcoming schools in the National Day of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, on 15th November, to tell young people about the company and what it has represented and represents for our area.

"We open our businesses – says Maurizio Bozzi, Vice President of Confindustria Livorno Delegate for the Small Industry – to students and teachers, taking them to the places where the value of competency and the proactive culture give life to products and services that represent the strength of our economy. Despite the difficulties of the crisis, these companies focus on growth with determination, the only way to defend the jobs and the future of the new generations. We have verified with great satisfaction that the advanced logistics, as well as all the activities of technological excellence of our territory, have attracted significant interest from schools, which have expressly requested to visit companies in these sectors: this shows how the level of perception of the importance of these businesses in the economic and social development of the territory, is very high

10/10/2013 Together for the Environment: Ocean and Labromare inaugurate the anti-pollution and prevention service for SIOT (the Italian Society for the Transalpine Oil Pipeline)

Trieste - Four new units, the "San Giusto", "Ocean 1", "Ocean 2" and "Ocean 3", have been made available from Ocean and Labromare for the anti-pollution and prevention service of the oil terminal of Siot - the Italian Society for the Transalpine Oil Pipeline. There are four "guardian angels", powerful and efficient, placed for the water protection and oil traffic in the port of Trieste. The units, which are equipped with the most advanced technologies, will enter officially into service next 21st October guarding the wharves and the activities that take place there. A new season for maritime security in Trieste will be opened. The presentation of the service and the resources took place yesterday morning at an event open to the city, on the docks and in the warehouses of Pier IV in the presence of Michela Cattaruzza, Chief Executive Officer of Ocean, Niccolò Poggiali, Chief Executive Officer of Labromare, Ulrike Andres, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siot and Eugenio Fiore Labromare Procurator.
It was also attended by Engineer Pascutti of the Cartubi Shipyard, and numerous representatives of local institutions, including Roberto Cosolini, Mayor of Trieste, Igor Dolenc, Vice President of the Province of Trieste, Sara Vito, Environmental Councillor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and Monsignor Giampaolo Crepaldi, Bishop of Trieste.
«Together for the Environment » is the motto which establishes the cooperation between the companies of the Ocean Group - Labromare and Siot. The primary goal of the service, as mentioned, is to protect the Gulf of Trieste with patrolling, monitoring, and "fast response anti-pollution" activities.
Last year 409 oil tankers docked at the Siot Terminal unloading 35 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for 75% of maritime traffic in the Gulf of Trieste. In the forecast ending December 2013, there is a further increase of over 500 ships and 40 million tonnes. New vehicles have been built according to specific characteristics concerning the power and maneuverability, and have been equipped with the most advanced technologies to prevent pollution. In particular, the three "Ocean" triplet units will assist the oil tankers during the unloading stages at the terminal, while the "San Giusto" will be on stand by 24 hours a day, ready to intervene if necessary.
The largest vehicle, the "San Giusto", built by the Cartubi Shipyard of Trieste, is 28.4 metres long and 7.5 wide, with a gross tonnage of 172 tonnes. It has two Caterpillar engines developing a total power of 1790 Kw and a Bollard pull of 27 tonnes. The other three units, the "Ocean" 1, 2 and 3 triplets, built by the Siman Shipyard of La Spezia, have a length of 17.5 metres by 6 metres in width, equipped with two Caterpillar main engines of 450 Kw each capable of providing a Bollard pull of 15 tonnes. Class notations are: tug, supply vessels, oil recovery ship with additional automation system notation.
The vehicles are equipped with thermographic cameras for rapid unveiling of the pollutant, with containment systems to limit spillages in the shortest possible time and means of remediation and recovery of the product, to be collected in large crates for its safe storage. The "San Giusto" has a capacity of 130 cubic metres, while the triplets have a capacity of 36 cubic metres. The four units are also equipped with all the facilities and equipment to perform the recovery-oil activities with maximum efficiency and safety. The fire-fighting systems provide maximum capacities of 200 m³/h at prevalences of 50 m. The equipment is composed primarily of 3 skimmers for 150 m³/h, 3 skimmers for 60 m³/h, more than a kilometer of inflatable booms, a kilometre of oil-absorbing booms, cranes with a capacity of three tonnes at 9 metres, tender with solid and semisolid recovery system, water dispersant, thickening spinnaker booms produced by lateral movement, hydraulic power units.
«Working with respect for the environment, with responsibility and attention to safety, has always been a priority for the company that continuously invests in innovation and the latest technology», said Ulrike Andres, President of Siot and Tal.
«A major investment of over six million euros, which, in a delicate phase of the economy, confirms the focus on environmental protection and testifies the confidence in the growth of the port of Trieste as a driving force for the development of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region» pointed out Michela Cattaruzza and Niccolò Poggiali, respectively CEOs of Ocean and Labromare.
